About Stove & Larder
Five years ago Stove & Larder was born from the desire for my husband and I to find a way to work together in a way that was centered around food. Since then it’s been the day dream of someday running an Italian inspired agriturismo, the name of a cottage bakery, a content platform and is now also the name of a monthly newsletter!
Join me as I discuss various topics covering food, ritual, and connecting to and honoring the Earth, with occasional topics also covering my love of thrifting, books and more.
About Megan
I was born and raised in the small L.A. suburb of South Pasadena in Southern California. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a deep love of food and cooking. I have vivid memories of eating Korean-Chinese food in Korea town, steamed clams and clam chowder at Redondo Beach, and ceviche with chile throughout various L.A. neighborhoods with my dad. At home, he’d make traditional Guatemalan foods to connect me to our heritage. Black beans and eggs for breakfast, a hearty vegetable and beef soup and tortilla chips with a Guatemalan radish salad he simply called rabano. I also have a lot of fond memories of flipping through old recipe cards with my Appalachian and midwest raised grandmother, planning the next thing we would cook together. Both my mom and grandmother deeply influenced and nurtured my love of cooking and are a huge part of why I still cook today.
After high school I attended a Le Cordon Blue culinary program in Pasadena, California while also working for cookware shop Sur La Table. Upon program completion I went to work in the restaurant industry, but a desire to learn about brewing and making specialty coffee and tea drinks led me to also working part time as a barista at Starbucks.
When I was 23, an opportunity to move to Bologna, Italy helped me continue to expand my passion and knowledge on different cuisines. For 18 months, I got to experiment with cooking different and seasonal ingredients, often learning first hand from Italian friends. I also traveled and ate my way through multiple Italian regions, as well as several European countries. When I returned to the U.S. I settled in New Hampshire, which is where I met and married my husband, Ben. While I worked mornings at Starbucks, I spent my afternoons working at a small downtown cheese shop in the capitol city of Concord. I was able to expand my knowledge of cheeses and wines while also gaining valuable experience as a catering and private cook alongside the proprietor.
When I had my first child, staying at home with her became my biggest desire and so I stepped away from all paid food-related work to raise her. A year after my second child was born, I was gifted a sourdough starter, learned to bake bread and eventually started a cottage bakery. Now I incorporate cozy, intentional and seasonal living recipes and practices into the content I make. I would love to bring you along on this journey!
